Eat More Bacon, Have Fewer Babies
Bacon has been discovered to lower men’s sperm count while fish can reportedly raise it.
According to the Inquisitr, a research team monitored the diets of over 150 men who were undergoing in-vitro fertilization with their partners, specifically studying what types of meat they ate regularly. Those who favored processed meats such as bacon were found to have about 2% lower sperm counts than average.
The men who favored fish, on the other hand, tested to have a higher than average sperm count.
While the study did prove that there is a direct correlation between these two foods and sperm count, the results cannot be deemed scientific facts due to the small amount of participants, which cannot statistically reflect the human population.
Dr. Allan Pacey, chairman of the British Fertility Society, discussed his skepticism about the findings:
“The relationship between diet and men’s fertility is an interesting one and there is convincing evidence that men who eat more fresh fruit and vegetables have better sperm than men who don’t. However, less is known about the fertility of men with poor diets.”
So the real conclusion here is that men who eat healthier will most likely have a higher sperm count than those who do not. The correlation between sperm count and specific food items, however, is only suggestive and not factually conclusive.
