Stress is linked to the six leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver and suicide. Rather you realize it or not your inability to deal with stress can adversely affect you on your journey to a happier life.

Many Americans deal with stress in several capacities and rather it be because of their jobs, their finances or even their home lives it can have a negative impact on any individual. While many across the world struggle with stress it is important to identify not only what has led to the stress but how to overcome it in positive ways:

Pray

If you are believer in any higher power prayer is the number one way to relieve stress. Prayer helps bring forth clarity and provides a way of meditation to those who seek to be centered spiritually.

Watch a Movie

One of the greatest ways to escape reality is to either read a book or watch a movie. A wise man once said that an idle mind is the devil’s playground. Watching movies can eliminate the amount of time you have to think idle thoughts.

Get Some Sleep

Another way to escape reality is to sleep it off. Study after study has been conducted and it has been proven that 37% of adults reportthat they feel the most fatigue when they are stressed. This shows that there is a direct correlation between sleep and stress. To avoid the negative impact of these two it is important that you simply make the time to get a few hours of shut eye.

Laugh it Off

Laughter really is the best medicine when it relates to stress. Studies have shown that laughing relieves physical tension and stress and can bring relief to your body for up to 45 minutes.

Exercise

Exercise overall promotes a healthier way of life. It also pumps up the production of our brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters leaving us feeling happier and less stressed.

Write it Out

Writing can be a great way to communicate your feelings without ever having to say a word. This could be very helpful especially for those who have a hard time with communication.

Talk it Out with a Professional

Many people think that talking to a professional makes them “crazy”; however, that is very far from the truth. Talking to a professional can help you verbalize emotions that we often are guilty of bottling in on the inside. If you are fearful of being considered as “crazy” talk to multiple professionals in the mental health industry and aim to find an environment that promotes a no judgement zone.

Get a Massage

Massages don’t just feel good they are good for your body. Massages allow the masseuse to manipulate the body muscles and tissues in order to relieve pain and ultimately decrease stress. While massages alone can sometimes become costly there are also more affordable ways to get massages including purchasing a massage chair from companies like Schultz innovation which allow you to get massages in your home after one single purchase. Your home can truly become your abode.

Surround Yourself with Positive People

Positive people really do have an impact on your life. Surrounding yourself with positive people not only creates a positive outlook but enables you to cope better.
