Two Science-Backed Sleep Lessons for Better Fertility
Sleep is hugely important for your fertility. Although it’s harder to come by these days with all the distractions that surround us, sleep’s benefits can’t be underestimated, especially when you’re also dealing with the stress of infertility. This is almost certainly not news to you, so I’ll just quickly make two key points.
Get at least 7-8 hours
Several studies have shown that getting less than 6 hours of sleep a night hurts sperm count. At least 8 hours a night is ideal, and if you’re getting less than 7, you’re putting your sperm at risk.
Late bedtimes matter too
Researchers have also found that staying up late can trigger an increase of a protein produced by the immune system that destroys healthy sperm. So turn off the lights by midnight.
If you’re someone who struggles with sleep, there are tons of good books out there that make the case for good sleep and what you can do to get it. Do yourself a favor and pick one up.
