Salmon with Ginger-Soy Butter

Salmon is a nutrient powerhouse, but restaurant versions often overload it with unhealthy fats and sodium. This recipe preserves salmon’s natural flavors while enhancing its health benefits, making it a perfect addition to your home-cooked meals.

Ingredients

  • 4 salmon fillets (4 to 6 oz each)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
  • 1/2 tbsp minced chives
  • 1/2 tbsp fresh ginger, peeled and grated or minced
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 1/2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or canola oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Flavored Butter

  1. In a bowl, combine the softened butter, minced chives, grated ginger, lemon juice, and low-sodium soy sauce.
  2. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until all ingredients are well blended. Set aside.

Step 2: Cook the Salmon

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil or canola oil in a large stainless-steel sauté pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Season the salmon fillets with salt and pepper.
  3. Once the oil is lightly smoking, place the salmon fillets flesh side down in the pan. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the skin is lightly charred and crispy.
  4. Flip the fillets and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, or until the flesh flakes with gentle pressure but remains slightly translucent in the middle.
    • For fully cooked salmon: Cook for an extra 2 to 3 minutes after flipping.

Step 3: Serve

  1. Transfer the cooked salmon to plates.
  2. Add a generous spoonful of the flavored butter to each fillet—the warmth of the salmon will melt the butter, creating a luscious, flavorful sauce.
